Who we are

Climate Web Lda. ("Climate", "we") is a Portuguese company based in Lisbon, responsible for processing the personal data collected through this site and the Climate mobile app.

For anything related to personal data, the contact is luisferreira@climateweb.pt.

What we collect on the website

On the website we collect only the minimum data needed for it to work: aggregated usage data via Google Analytics, Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights (pages visited, device, approximate country).

If you subscribe to the newsletter, we store the email you provide. If you fill in the organisers form, we store the name, email, organisation and message you send.

What we collect in the app

Account and profile: name, username, email, city, profile photo, language, and the interests and motivations you pick during onboarding. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may share a private relay email with us instead of your real address.

Activity: your event sign-ups and participation history, the comments you post, the organisers you follow, and the reports you submit. Event organisers can see the list of participants signed up to their events (name, username and profile photo).

Gamification: experience points (XP), level and badges tied to your activity. Your display name and profile photo may appear on the weekly leaderboard, which is visible to other users.

Notifications: if you enable push notifications, we store your device identifier (APNs token) so we can deliver them.

Location: your precise location is used on your device only, to centre the map and sort nearby events. We do not store your precise location on our servers; the only location we keep is the city you set in your profile.

Usage: we collect in-app usage events (screens viewed, actions like signing up or searching) through PostHog, hosted in the European Union, linked to your account. They are used exclusively to improve the product.

What we use it for

To run the service: show events, manage sign-ups, connect volunteers to organisers, and keep your history and progress.

To communicate with you: push notifications and emails about the things you asked to be notified about, or to reply to requests you send us.

To keep the community safe: reviewing reports, moderating content and preventing abuse. Moderation actions are logged.

To improve the product, based on usage data. We do not sell data to third parties. We do not use your data for targeted advertising.

Where we store it and who we share it with

Data is hosted in the European Union: Vercel (website), Supabase (database and files) and PostHog (product analytics, EU instance). Newsletter emails are stored in Mailchimp. Push notifications are delivered through Apple’s service (APNs).

Requests sent through the organisers form are forwarded to our internal notification tool, only so we can reply.

We do not share your data with anyone else, except where legally required.

How long we keep it and how to delete it

We keep your account data for as long as the account exists. You can delete your account directly in the app (Settings → Delete account): this removes your profile, sign-ups, XP, badges, comments and notification tokens. Past events you organised may remain visible without your name attached.

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time via the link in every email, or by writing to us.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete and port your data, and to object to its processing. To exercise any of these rights just email luisferreira@climateweb.pt.

If you think your data is not being handled properly, you can lodge a complaint with the Portuguese data protection authority (CNPD).

Cookies
